High Performance Raw Materials for the Automotive Industry

Bayer MaterialScience’s products are used for high performance applications in the automotive industry. Polyurethanes, TPU’s and polycarbonates offer many advantages when it comes to light weight options, efficiency, durability and appearance.

Raw materials for the automotive industry - Bayer
In automobiles, plastics are replacing steel and other metals, and are being used for integrated solutions.

All of Bayer MaterialScience’s products are used in the automotive industry. Polycarbonates – most prominently Makrolon® - offer light weight, transparency, hardness and very flexible design options. They are increasingly replacing the heavier glass parts and contribute to a reduction in weight and ultimately a better fuel efficiency.

Polyurethanes are also found in many applications of the automotive industry like in car seats, in dashboards and instrument panels or in under the hood applications.

TPU – Thermoplastic polyurethanes – are the material of choice for the pleasantly soft surfaces of automotive interior parts.  For exterior automotive applications coating raw materials provide a shiny appearance and a reliable protection against weather and aggressive substances for a long time.
