Bayer MaterialScience production facilities are continuously being optimized and expanded
Reliable, efficient, safe
They are the size of apartment buildings and set new standards in volume, quality, efficiency and safety: the world-scale production facilities that Bayer MaterialScience maintains around the world. Their continuous technical optimization and expansion in line with the demands of the market are given high priority.
Isocyanate production in Baytown, United States: Bayer MaterialScience continuously invests in its production facilities and infrastructure.
From the Lower Rhine sites in Germany to Shanghai, China to Baytown in the United States – Bayer Material Science will continue to invest in its sites in the three key regions of Europe, Asia and the Americas in the years ahead in order to maintain its leading competitive positions and ensure the company’s future viability.
Major expansion in China
The main focus of this investment is China, where continued strong growth and high demand for plastics are expected. The biggest plans call for the investment of EUR 1 billion in the expansion of production capacities at the Shanghai integrated production site in the next few years.
This continues the robust policy of investment that Bayer MaterialScience has employed in recent years. Some EUR 2.5 billion, for instance, has already been invested in Shanghai as part of a multi-year program, whose latest major project was a new plant for TDI, the raw material for flexible foams. A total of around EUR 1.5 billion has been invested in the major German production sites since 2001.
